KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE
YOUR OCTOBER 2006 RMC RESULTS ARE IN!
Tagline: This movie is totally out of control!
The Preshow Entertainment was an episode of BLOOPERS from a show I taped in 1982. It featured Dick Clark pretending to laugh, as if he just watched the clip along with us. He was not a great pretender. But we love our bloopers, and we saw some from HEE HAW, THE INCREDIBLE HULK (Bill Bixby!!!!!), THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, and of course- an elephant grabbing a guy's balls.
The Random Pizza (Pizza Hut) arrived and we started eating. Usually, we get our food and turn on the movie ("Oh, you are such a sexy movie...come here, baby..."). But we were hungry, and started eating standing up as we were grabbing it. Pigs. The Lasagna Pizza was, of course, terrible. I guess thinking it would taste like lasagna and pizza was a mistake. But we had strong feelings it would be bad. I mean, it's called Pizza Hut, not Pizza Palace. And using that logic, the movie too told us it would be cheap. It wasn't called Porterhouse Steak Movie, or Escargot Movie. It was called-
KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE. Now before I continue, I must say that KFM has a huge following. People swear by how funny it is. But ya know, people are often wrong. So if you are one of those people who love this movie, you may want to stop reading or you may get very angry with me. Very.
This movie sucks so bad. It sucks sucks sucks, and then it sucks some more. And possibly even more!
The way-paver for movies such as AIRPLANE!, KFM misses 100% of the time; jokes either fall flat, go on too long, or are non-existent. It's just a little weird that the writers were the Zuckers and Abrahams, and the director was John Landis.
I remember being in the minority when everyone else was going crazy for this film when it was released. I wonder if they are laughing now. I don't have the patience to rent the DVD and hear the commentary to see if Zuckers/Abrahams/Landis love it. Sad, since I love Zuckers/Abrahams/Landis. But then again, I don't like any of the SCARY MOVIEs either.
But like I said up top, this movie is bad. Yes, I know times were different when it came out, and so maybe it was daring or subversive. But maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was just a comedy-less comedy. Or maybe you need to be a stoner. Probably both.
The evening's highlight (besides "The End") for me was that Bill Bixby was in KFM and BLOOPERS. What are the chances?
At least this time it's not just me. We all hated KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE. Wait, "hate" is a strong word. But fitting.
