The next movie we saw was part three of a famous trilogy. You know the one- The main characters have a quest for something so important to them that they will stop at nothing to get it. I was a little worried, since I only saw the first installment, that I would be lost skipping to the third. But credit goes to the filmmaker, who did such a splendid and seamless job, I wasn't lost for a minute.
A straight-to-cable entry in the WILD THINGS trilogy, WILD THINGS: DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH follows the evil ways of nubilette Marie, as she plots to get the diamonds her mom left her in her will from the evil ways of her stepfather. Like the first WILD THINGS (an early RMC selection), it's chock full of backstabbing and secret alliances. Though, unlike WILD THINGS, it's devoid of any fun or original thought. It's just a bunch of young girls in bikinis making out with each other. It was like watching my social life play out on screen.
But seriously, this is a franchise that really can't work on an artistic level. It's just making a movie to make money, which is okay, that's the goal of most any movie. But if you're looking for substance, look elsewhere. To make a sequel of WILD THINGS work is formidable. It would be like making THE SIXTH SENSE 2. We know the gag at the end, so any surprises come as no surprise. You don't even bother trying to guess who's zooming who(m). You don't care. And why should you? They don't.
